Trendspotting: Just G’s Denim Jacket

I think I bought around 4 different kinds of denim jackets in the last 2 months! What is this addiction?

With 90s fashion coming back with a vengeance, the denim jacket is surely one of this season’s most important staples! My relationship with denim jackets go way back 7th grade, the same time elephant pants caught on (to my dismay). Good thing denim jackets were carefully tried and tested (with good reviews) through the years, and now they’re slowly creeping back into my closet after so long.

One of the best things about denim jackets is their ability to put a fun, street vibe to almost anything! Just G included a good (and affordable) denim jacket in one of their recent collections, so I put together two different looks to show how you can wear it with other Just G items!

Grungy denim and flirty florals always make a good combination because of the contrast between tough and sweet.

Here’s something a little inspired by K-pop (mostly the headband and the shoes). Denim jackets also work surprisingly well with different kinds of prints and patterns! Who would’ve thought?

Another one of my cliche spring/summer combinations. Denim and floral prints are two separate spring/summer staples, and pairing them together create a very pleasant contrast between sweet and edgy.

I’ve had these denim shorts since about 2007, and thank goodness they still fit me! TBH, I was quite afraid to try them on after so long, thinking that I may have gained weight since then. But genetics has been very kind to me and my siblings - most of our items from way, way back still fit us until now. Phew! Saves us a lot of time and effort buying bigger or smaller sizes. Thanks mom and dad! We’re all dreading that moment when gravity and age finally decide to take their toll on us! T_T

On a related note, I finally got a perfect-fitting floral bomber jacket! It’s not too thick so I can wear it often without sweating like mad. Fast forward to next week, please? Looking forward to spring weather in Japan!

These pants from the latest Fall 2012 collection of Tory Burch are my perfect fitting jeans to date! So comfortable and I absolutely love the gold details on the side that make it more than just your ordinary pair of jeans. I haven’t worn blue or dark blue denim pants in a while but I just might rekindle the flame of this old romance. Can you believe that skirts/shorts-loving me used to live in my jeans throughout my early college years?

Bayo: Key Pieces

It’s quite easy to be overwhelmed with clothes. When you go inside a store and buy something that catches your attention, you normally overlook how it would look like with the rest of the items in your closet. When the times comes when you finally decide to wear it, you become so dumbfounded that you just end up wearing that item with all your other favorite items in the hopes of making it all work.

One way to get past this is to focus on one or two key pieces, and build the rest of your outfit around that. They key pieces don’t have to be the loudest-looking ones. They can be your most recent purchases, or just the clothes that you passionately feel like wearing.

You can also try wearing something simple first before working on it slowly by wearing the right accents and accessories to spice things up.

For this look, I opted to focus on two key items - the denim jacket and the classic black pumps. I wanted my new faded denim jacket to stand out so I chose a simple white tee and a nice black midi skirt to go with it.

As usual, I wanted a surprising pop of color! Socks are my favorite add-ons to any outfit.

Clearly, someone still not over the socks-with-heels trend! :)

Here’s a better photo of my shoes and my jacket. I challenged myself quite a bit by trying to mix something as grungy as a denim jacket and something as girly as these lace pumps (available in Rustan’s Makati and Alabang, btw). I hope the combination worked!

For this next one, I decided to work on my existing white top and black skirt ensemble. It’s a classic combination that’s perfect for matching accessories.

Kept my neck and wrists free from accessories because…

…leopard prints are such busy, fun prints! But that’s what makes them some of the best accents ever. <3

Key pieces aren’t limited to just these, of course. Focus, if you can! For example, you can create drama by wearing one statement necklace and keeping the rest of your outfit fuss-free and print-free. Invest in versatile items that you can mix and match depending on the kind of look that you’re going for. These things include accessories of different styles, or sophisticated basics that can be used in different occasions. Speaking of basics, white tops and black bottoms are every girl’s must-haves, I believe. They’re match everything, and they *always* make you look effortlessly chic.

Actually, the possibilities are endless and this post is all over the place (and not to mention, a week too late). It helps to deliberate on the things you buy and wear, once in a while! (Also, I need to listen to my own advice, haha.)
