SM Makati Styling Event - September 15, 2014

Posted on Friday, 26 September 2014

I’ve always enjoyed doing makeovers, and I’m so happy SM Makati gave me an opportunity to give back, and help my readers with whatever styling concern that they had. Thanks SM Makati for hosting this small event! <3

We chose 4 winners via a quick Twitter contest, and met Kim, Aniqa, Mika and Yen at The SM Store on a relaxed Monday afternoon. We all clicked within minutes of meeting each other! They were also quick to open up to me about their styling concerns:

1) Kawaii-loving Kim has always been conscious about her height and arms, and wanted to try wearing something other than her usual dress + cardigan ensemble. She also had no idea how to wear prints and pants, given her height and body type.

2) Art student Aniqa wanted to look youthful and fun yet professional for her upcoming internship. While color-blocking, and mixing and matching may not be a problem for her in terms of her craft, it definitely is when it comes to fashion! She is also just cut her hair really short so she wanted to inject more feminine pieces into her wardrobe.

3) Mika wanted to get away from just wearing pants and loose tops all the time. She’s a huge follower of the local fashion scene, and is very much inspired by model off-duty looks.

4) Yen is a new mom (her 3-month-old baby Parker is the cuuutest!) who wanted to graduate from cutesy dolly looks, and dabble into sexier, more grown-up styles after giving birth.

While Kim and Aniqa were having their make-up done at the Covergirl and Maybelline booths…

image

Mika, Yen and I bonded over shopping and fashion!

image

They were free to choose whatever they wanted, and whenever they didn’t know what to pair with the items they chose, I gave my own recommendations. I also dared them to go out of their comfort zones and choose items that they’ve never tried before.

image

Mika and Yen loved the SM Woman section for all the sophisticated pieces that can be worn from day-to-night.

image

Spent forever just ogling at SM Shoes and Bags!

image

Mika got these instant leg-elongating, leg-slimming shoes!

SM Parisian’s got a wonderful selection at the moment. Almost everyone got these pointy-toe wedges! I would’ve gotten these for myself too if only it were available in my size (Boo, I have small feet!).

image

Gray or black?

image

Grabby hands! SM’s bags are ideal for everyday use. You can totally fit your life in them!

image

SM Accessories has some wonderful evening clutches! Most of them have an extra strap inside, just in case you want to turn them into crossbody bags. Nifty!

image

Bonding time with Kim and Aniqa while Yen and Mika had their make-up done. Check out their happy shopping pile! :D

image

So many options at SM Accessories! You’ll be surprised to be find the latest jewelry trends there at such affordable prices.

image

Kim’s personal pick! If you love all things cute and dainty, GTW by SM is the perfect place to go shopping!

image

My personal picks from SM Parisian. Flats are my savior nowadays, especially when traveling. I don’t know how I was able to survive my early 20s just wearing heels all the time!

image

Classy colors. Need all 3 in my life. These would look good with anything!

At this point, we all went to the nearest dressing room for the final transformation! Given the items they picked, I styled the girls accordingly. I felt like I was able to put my styling skills to a test! So fun!

image

Kim almost never wears pants because she thinks they just make her look shorter and frumpier. Sticking to one color family, and wearing pants with a crop top and pointy heels help in elongating one’s silhouette.

I asked her how she felt with her outfit, and she said she felt “powerful”. LOVE IT! Fashion is really transfomative.

image

Aniqa chose a top and bottom set, but I showed her that it can be worn separately if she wanted to. Pleated midi skirts are all the rage this season, but we kept it light, fun and age-appropriate with a colorful top.

The second look is all about matching colors. My no-fail rule in choosing what solid color to go with a print is to choose a color FROM the print. This way, your outfit will look more coherent (instead of just totally random). The skort had a hint of yellow in it, so we chose a yellow top.

image

Mika wanted to build an outfit around this plaid sweater. Worked with her body type, and balanced the print out with a slim, origami-type skirt that showed off her pretty legs (Me to Mika: Your legs are perfect. *shock* How dare you always cover them with pants? LOL).

image

The baby is now a lady! Yen’s transformation into a super stylish mom got me all nostalgic about my own blonde phase in the past, and how I slowly transitioned into more mature looks.

Yen prefers flat shoes for everyday use, now that she’s a mom. Every once in a while she still wears heels, but we decided to go for outfits that will still look chic even with flats.

image

Mika’s final outfit. Check out that confident expression!

image

Kim’s final outfit. She’s a kawaii girl at heart, so we ended up with this outfit that she felt best represented her personality. Only this time, we skipped the tutu, ribbons and pastels for a change.

image

Artist-ception! I hope they make this shirt in a “blogger” print too!

We kept her individual street style and penchant for monochromatic pieces, but injected the final look with feminine elements, as she wished. Graphic tee + lace skirt = who would’ve thought it could work?

image

No need to give up your dolly roots once you’ve entered motherhood! Love this sweet, sophisticated Sunday look for Yen.

image

Writing this entry just gave me separation anxiety. I spent a whole afternoon with these girls, and I had such a blast getting to know each one of them.

The reason why I didn’t force my own personal style on them by pre-choosing the items is because I wanted them to realize that there is an infinite amount of styling potential already in them. This event was enough proof, I think. :”)

SM Makati: Shifting Workwear

Posted on Wednesday, 17 September 2014

image

A lot of people think that my wardrobe is bottomless, but I actually repeat clothes a lot. I’ve always found it practical to invest in classic pieces that work for my body type. If they fit perfectly, I’m definitely wearing them again. If I find a certain style that is versatile enough to go from day to night, I’m definitely buying it.

This is why I have a ton of shift dresses in my closet! Move over, bodycon dresses, because shift dresses are much more comfortable and sophisticated. They’re great for work too! I usually wear shift dresses to my meetings because they automatically make me look decent and professional. (The last thing you want to do in a professional setting is distract people with unnecessary skin exposure!)

But what *can* you do to modify a knee-length shift dress? I love wearing shift dresses as is, but different occasions call for different styling. These kinds of work dresses need not always be boring, since there are various ways to make them more exciting:

image

1) A) Use a belt to shorten your dress to your desired length.

This is a technique that I often use for all my good but awkward length dresses. I’m just average height (I’m only 5’3” without heels!) with a short torso-longer legs proportion, so I always play with proportions, and try to elongate my figure by showing off my legs. (This explains all my leg-baring OOTDs!)

image

B) Use a belt to define your waist.

This creates the illusion of a curvier figure, and also acts like an additional accessory to the whole outfit. I chose a skinny black belt with a gold buckle to match my favorite gold jewelry.

Choosing the best belt for your body type is important, unless looking frumpy doesn’t bother you at all. If you’re petite or pear-shaped, go for skinny belts that won’t overwhelm your frame. If you’ve got an hourglass figure, make sure your belt emphasizes the tiniest part of your waist (don’t go for the ones that rest at the hip). If you have a long torso, you can get away with wide belts.

image

2) Wear a blazer over your belted dress, and match it with boots/booties.

Perfect way to make your work dress go from day-to-night. Choose a non-black blazer to make your outfit pop, and skip the office pumps for edgier shoes!

image

3) Wear a knit top/sweater over your dress, and accessorize with a statement necklace.

It was only recently that I appreciated layering over dresses! I love how my skirt collection seems like it has somewhat doubled, now that I can make my dresses look like skirts too! Best to go for cropped sweaters and knits to balance out the length of the shift dress.

Also, statement necklaces are always your best friend.

The bag (SM Parisian) and dress (from SM Woman) are available at The SM Store in SM Makati. You might also want to check out the sleeveless version of this dress, as well as the rack of SM Accessories where I got the statement necklace in my last photo.

Have fun shopping!

SM Beauty Doll Glam

Posted on Friday, 1 August 2014

As a pioneer of the latest beauty trends, the SM Store Beauty Section dedicated a glamorous weekend of free makeovers, nail art, and hair coloring to fans of make-up and all things beauty-related.

image

It was an honor to be part of the first ever Doll Glam event last July 26 at SM North EDSA The Block! I’ve always been an advocate of the Japanese-inspired dolly look, and it’s great that the SM Beauty Section found a way to bring in new brands that push for this particular make-up aesthetic. It’s about time!

image

Alodia/Edjie came as a sparkly kitty princess from heaven, while my OOTD ended up as a cutesy version of Catherine Zeta-Jones/Elena from Zorro, lol. Top from titty&Co, skirt from Romwe, wedges from RANDA, and earrings and choker from EMODA. Inspired by Shibuya 109 shop staff and Japanese magazine bloggers, I wanted my outfit to look dolly yet still wearable!

image

(Hair color swap!)

Meanwhile, backstage, Edjie and I camwhored like we always used to back in college! We often miss each other in Tokyo (i.e. she would arrive on my date of departure, and I would arrive on her date of departure), but thanks to this event, we finally got our schedules to match. Good times!

image

Sparkly pink nails are a must for dolls! (Mine is the hand with the ring)

We also had the chance to talk to the winners of the VIP contest, which was a very heartwarming experience. I’m always so grateful for my followers, and I can’t thank them enough when I meet them face-to-face. Some of them even brought their own copies of the #TriciaGosingtianStyleBook to be signed too! I haven’t promoted my book in ages, so I’m glad people still carry it around with them, huhu. /cry

image

Photographer Jio had his camera pimped out with Hello Kitty stickers! Too kawaii not to include in this post.

image

The event started with models styled in the 4 key Doll Glam looks. Doll Glam can be cute, pretty, hippie and sexy, so there’s sure to be a place for each and every girl! I loved how the stylist combined some of the key looks to match the models’ personalities.

image

Edjie and I dressed up according to the key looks too! She went as cute/sexy (she is pretty much the perfect manifestation of this combination), while I went as pretty/hippie. I tried my best to look as girly and dolly as possible!

image

If the ^_^ smiley came to life…

(Thanks to my boyfriend for taking this photo. If someone were to take this kind of photo of me, it would be him.)

image

We did a short demonstration on how to achieve that Doll Glam look, and it turned me into a puddle of anxiety! I was so nervous because of the time limit! Thankfully, I think I did an okay job!

image

I focused on the eyes by applying a brown shimmer eyeshadow to the eyelids, winging the brown pencil eyeliner out, using a light brown eyebrow mascara on the eyebrows, not forgetting to put mascara on the lower lashes, and finally applying natural-looking falsies to create the illusion of doll eyes.

image

With my doll of the day - Ruth! You might recognize her beautiful face in all of SM’s department stores.

Love the accidental matchy matchy off-shoulder top x big skirt combo too. We’re definitely made for each other, bb Ruth!

image

10 lucky winners were chosen during the event to receive special gift packs (which included brands like Dolly Wink, BYS, NYX, Pixy, Heroine Make, Kate, Maybelline Color Show, Cutex, Palty, Beautylabo and Lucido L, among others), as well as a chance to walk down the stage to show their outfits. Everyone looked absolutely adorable! You can tell that most of them are rabid fans of Japanese culture.

Mad props to them for the confidence that they exuded while walking the runway. Sometimes I wish I were a little less like a statue in public events! You’d think that after all these years, I’d get used to it. But I could never, haha.

image

Some of the brands and products that the 10 lucky girls were able to receive!

image

Harajuku girls. They definitely did justice to Japanese street style!

image

Edjie and I with our dollies/models after the demo. This event just proved that it is totally possible to achieve the Doll Glam look in a short span of time if you have the right products. Thanks to SM Store Beauty Section for helping us out!

Much thanks to the recent birthday girl Nicole Andersson for doing such a great job at hosting too, as usual.

image

Whee! Full house!

Thanks to SM Beauty Section for the flowers! I got the one with the blue gingham wrap while Edjie got the pink one! I wonder if this was just random or if the organizers knew that blue is my favorite color.

Photo time! Some people traveled hours just to attend the event, so I stayed behind after the program to thank people, sign books, and take lots of selfies!

image

Kawaii girls Anne and Kaila! Kaila’s in town for Kawaii in Manila 2, the first Philippine Kawaii Convention happening on September 6th! I’m definitely going! See you there?

Here are only some of the pictures from that day! Don’t forget to tag me on Instagram and use the hashtag #SMBeautyDollGlam if you’ve yet to post your photos from the event!

Finishing this post off with my Doll Glam selfie taken before the event and before all the sweat!

Thanks to Events 100 and SM Store Beauty Section for this opportunity! Hoping for more Japanese beauty/fashion-related events in Manila!

SM Accessories: The Supreme Four

Posted on Monday, 19 November 2012

Tricia Gosingtian SM Accessories

(SM Accessories earrings, necklace, ring and clutch, Forever 21 top, Clothes for the Goddess skirt, Indressme coat, FashionCookie ShoeAvenue wedges) Hype this look on Lookbook here. Thanks to RG for taking my photos.

Holiday dressing at its finest. I know well that it’s too hot to wear a coat out in Sunny Manila, but I couldn’t help but throw it in for the sake of these photos. Burgundy and camel always make for a classy combination, don’t you think?

I’m sure you’re all as excited as I am, that Christmas is just around the corner. It’s my favorite time of the year for a number of reasons! Firstly, everyone just seems to be friendlier and happier than usual! The effect of seeing giant parols in the streets and hearing Jose Mari Chan’s songs *cue Christmas in our Hearts* playing everywhere (and starting as early as September) is something I wish we could carry on for the rest of the year. People happily sip their peppermint coffee, red cups in hand, while they enjoy the cool evening breeze in mall parks with their loved ones by their side. Looks like a very warm and fuzzy picture, eh? It’s just like we were born for this occasion.

Secondly, the gimmicks, the events and all the parties! ‘Tis the season to be chubby~! If I didn’t have good metabolism, I think I would gain about 10-15 pounds every Christmas just by the sheer amount (and not to mention, quality) of food that I stuff myself with every time I have to attend a Christmas party. Seriously, where do all these food come from? But the bigger question here is how we are all still able to miraculously finish EVERYTHING from lechon to bibingka

Thirdly, besides all the piggy moments, these parties are extra wonderful because we get to see all our relatives too. Not all families get together every chance that they get, so Christmas is definitely one of those important things that we don’t want to miss out on. <3

And lastly, HOLIDAY DRESSING! Call me shallow but I absolutely love all the sparkle and glitter that comes with Christmas. Brands suddenly bring out their Holiday collections, which usually consist of my favorite red, blue, green, black and white, as well as all the manifestations of gold and silver that you can ever think of.

Something that is uniquely *me* during this time of the year is wearing shiny bling and not feeling overdressed for it. For the rest of the year, I always try to keep it simple and minimal, but for the strangest reason, the celebratory atmosphere during the holidays transforms me into this completely new person who suddenly likes dressing like there’s a party everyday… even if there is none.

Tricia Gosingtian SM Accessories

When I saw that SM Accessories was stepping up the game with the biggest and brightest fashion foursome, Georgina Wilson, Xian Lim, Richard Gutierrez, and Anne Curtis, I immediately thought… IT’S ABOUT TIME! Whenever I would go to SM Department Store, I would never fail to buy at least one little trinket from SM Accessories. At a very affordable price, you wouldn’t even think twice about purchasing their products. They have a wide array of designs, which are arranged by… *drum roll* COLOR, making it so convenient for all of us shopaholics. I often immediately go to the black, silver and gold sections to see if there are any nice necklaces or earrings I can add to my jewelry collection.

Tricia Gosingtian SM Accessories

See how accessories can make a seemingly plain outfit look elegant and classy?

I am so obsessed with giant earrings, if you’ve noticed! They conveniently make your face look smaller (and I’ve always believed that my face looks huge compared to my body type/frame). I’m not so much into transforming my face permanently, but I’m all for creating illusions to fit my own standard of beauty.

Tricia Gosingtian SM Accessories

Every girl should have a classic black clutch. Most of us have black heels as our wardrobe staples, but for the holidays, you can also invest in a matching clutch that can transform any outfit into a party-ready one.

Tricia Gosingtian SM Accessories

This new favorite gypsy-esque necklace seems too busy and ornamented for my taste, but it’s a nice touch to add under collars. If I had to go out with only one accessory, my choice would be a tie between earrings (which I feel naked without) and a statement necklace such as this one.

Tricia Gosingtian SM Accessories

When it comes to wearing accessories, I don’t mix metals! Some people can pull wearing both silver and gold off, but it’s one of my personal pet peeves. Sometimes my intense sensitivity to details helps when it comes to keeping an outfit from looking incoherent. Details as simple as the accent of my clutch and the corners of my diamond-shaped ring are things I never overlook. I even get worked up when the metal buckles of my bag don’t match the rest of my jewelry.

Tricia Gosingtian SM Accessories

For the holidays, black/white and gold, I think is the more Christmas-y choice. This is why I particularly chose these four accessories - earrings, necklace, ring and clutch, to create a warm, festive vibe to my whole outfit.

Finished this whole outfit off with simple black wedges that give all my accessories the spotlight that they deserve. :D

Tricia Gosingtian SM Accessories

Not convinced that accessories are this season’s must-haves? The new endorsers should be enough to make you want to head to the nearest SM Department Store. I’ve been following Anne and Georgina on Instagram - I love their faces so much and could only wish to look like them!

Sadly, I just arrived from Indonesia when they gathered the “it crowd” in Republiq to unveil “The Supreme Four”. It was graced by personalities from all over the industry; celebrities like Annabelle Rama, Eddie Gutierrez, Raymond Gutierrez, Tessa Prieto-Valdes, Nancy Castiglione, Sarah Lahbati, Frencheska Farr, Kylie Padilla, Rocco Nacino, Enzo Pineda, PBB Teens housemates Ivan Dorschner, James Reid, Bret Jackson, and Devon Seron, One Mega’s Sari Yap, Preview’s Lyca Puno and Anna Canlas, and supermodel Danica Magpantay. Also spotted were Marie Lozano, IC Mendoza, Bianca Roque and Chino Lui Pio who were covering the launch. Guests danced to the beats of crowd favorite DJ Mars Miranda, and were treated to prizes such as SMART Bro Tablets and an iPhone, courtesy of SMART.

The biggest celebrities have already been spotted with SM Accessories! It’s your turn to get spotted, with the leader and the authority in fashion accessories! You can get more of what’s new and get a chance to win up to 100k by following them on Facebook (just click on their ad on my sidebar) and Twitter. Don’t forget to include the hashtag #FashionAuthority. :)

SM MOA: Travel Fashion Tips

Posted on Wednesday, 12 September 2012

Good morning and hello from Melbourne! I know I was only in Singapore a few days ago, but I badly needed a proper vacation after all the work that I’ve done in the past few months. I’m here with my mom and 2 of my parents’ friends from work. I’m enjoying the refreshing change, especially since I’ve spent a lot of time alone in my last 2 trips. So far, I’ve accompanied them to outlet stores in Harbor Town so they can buy all their pasalubongs (or homecoming gifts) to their loved ones. One of them even brought paper cutouts of all her grandchildren’s feet. Oh, the nostalgia! As kids, my siblings and I used to do the same whenever my parents would go abroad. These cutouts would serve as references in purchasing the right size of footwear.

Today, I’m up extra early because I have to work in the middle of my vacation! But I missed the Internet too, so no complaints here. My hotel charges for wifi, so it was quite an adventure trying to look for a place here in Melbourne that isn’t too stingy about it. In the end, I just paid 5 dollars so I don’t have to walk all the way to the CBD with my laptop. We took a red eye flight from Manila to Melbourne, and immediately proceeded to touring around the city at 9 or so the morning after my flight. So the last time I had Internet was… a lifetime ago. LOL, something I definitely miss whenever I’m in Manila is my 3G/data plan. *cry*

Anyhow, I’ve received a lot of messages from people asking me about this constant traveler’s lifestyle that I have, and how I manage to take pictures and take note of everything while still managing to keep my hair properly-curled, makeup in perfect place, and outfit well in check. Personally, the key to traveling in style is to invest in classic pieces that do not compromise comfort. If you’re traveling and you’re not comfortable with what you’re wearing, I swear that your mind will be all over the place and you won’t be able to concentrate on what you really need to do as a tourist! Unless you are in another country to be spotted or discovered. Or unless you flew to another country only to find a foreigner boyfriend…

I don’t really dress up fancily when I take a vacation with my family. Most of the time, my outfits would just consist of pants (that I recycle and use more than once, if my holiday is long) and different button-down, cardigan and sweater combinations. I’m a little sensitive when it comes to dressing up in a foreign country, especially since there are times when you need to enter temples and churches and it would be too weird and insensitive to wear shorts and tight skirts. I would totally hate using “I didn’t know because I’m only a tourist” as an excuse if ever I get reprimanded.

When you’re a shopaholic, you wouldn’t really mind wearing the simplest things if it would mean more space in your luggage for all your new finds. And simple doesn’t have to be boring either. One of my most favorite go-to places for traveling-in-fashion essentials is MUJI! I first encountered the store when I went to Japan a few years ago, and right then and there, I wanted my future house to look like MUJI — white with wood and green. Think earth music & ecology campaigns with Aoi Miyazaki.

I was really happy that they decided to finally become available for us back n Manila! They don’t have the complete selection (I remember the one in Canal City in Fukuoka was HUGE, like a department store) but they have all the best things. I’m a fan of their 4-wheeled shoe racks - I have about 12 of those in my room, and they are incredibly convenient since you can move them around easily if you need to clean/sweep the floor. They don’t look bad at all for shoe racks too! It’s about both form and function, yeah?

So here are some of my favorite MUJI items coordinated to create versatile travel outfits. I played around with some key pieces that I recommend every traveler should have!

Tricia Gosingtian MUJI SM Mall of Asia

This is a default spring/fall outfit. I absolutely love slouchy sweaters! Most of the time I would purposely get them in larger sizes to not only create a cozier effect, but so I can also wear more than 1 layer underneath in case the temperature drops.  I also like styling my stoles/scarfs like this because it makes sense to cover up your neck twice in a cold environment.

Special thanks to Cocorose London for the immensely comfy foldable travel-friendly flats!

Tricia Gosingtian MUJI SM Mall of Asia

Long flights need the most comfortable clothes. When I know I’m going to be on a plane for more than 10 hours, I usually dress very functionally! I feel totally uncomfortable wearing shorts/skirts inside the plane too, because I have a strange pet peeve about my skin being in contact with my plane seat. You’ll never know when the last time they properly cleaned the seat was. You’ll never know how many minuscule grains of food accidentally dropped from your tray to your seat. You’ll never know if someone put their bare feet on the seat. Call it paranoia but I’ve seen all of this happen already *cringe* :(

Scarves such as this one are quite convenient too, especially if you’re in a low-budget carrier and you’re not given any blankets. It can serve as a blanket/shawl to give you the warmth that you need!

Tricia Gosingtian MUJI SM Mall of Asia

I get cold easily so I always bring a cardigan with me in my hand carry luggage, in case my scarf isn’t providing enough warmth. Here’s the most popular way of wearing a scarf too! Or maybe I just watch/read too much Harry Potter.

Anyway, if you’re wondering why this whole post lacks accessories, it’s because there are some forms of jewelry that beep when you pass through the scanner. It would be such a hassle to go back only to find out that it would only be a necklace causing all that ruckus. Better to just wear all your arm/neck bling when you get to your hotel, just before you head out for your tourist activities! Unless you want to take outfit shots in the airport. Or inside the airplane. That would be the ultimate challenge.

Hope this entry helped! I got all these items from MUJI in SM Mall of Asia, which will be having their anticipated BIG! BIG! SALE this weekend (September 14-16, 2012) already. Up to 70% off, and they’ll be open until midnight. Awesome news for workaholics like me who only really get to go out and enjoy life outside the Internet past a certain time. :)) Follow them on Twitter @TheMallofAsia and follow their hashtag #BigMOASale for specific details and promos!
