Never mind the debate whether Hello Kitty is really a cat or not, because at the end of the day, she’s still the same kawaii icon that we’ve grown to love through the years!
Did you know that on November 1st, Hello Kitty will already be celebrating her 40th birthday? I envy all those who can go to the first ever Hello Kitty Con in Los Angeles. I can only imagine how cute everything will be.
Since I can’t attend Hello Kitty’s 40th birthday celebration, I’ll just wear Hello Kitty fashion as a form of tribute to my childhood favorite. I recently found a Hello Kitty nook in The SM Store’s Girls Teens Wear section, and couldn’t help but help raise awareness for it since it’s super underrated!
I must say that it is all kinds of purr-fect!
Hello Kitty meets FIFA World Cup! GTW by SM has these adorable crop tops of all the countries that participated in the recent league… except Japan? So I had to get the South Korea top as a second choice, lol.
Not complaining though! The Korean embassy granted me a 3-year multiple-entry visa the same day I wore this outfit. Foreshadowing…?!
Can’t wait for my Seoul trip at the end of the month!
Paired my sporty crop top and cap with a girly skater skirt and ankle-strap heels. (Pardon the K-pop wannabe pose! I just had to!)
The Hello Kitty corner of GTW by SM also has Hello Kitty-patterned long-sleeved tops and hoodies. I had to get this top because of its overflowing potential to instantly kawaii-fy any outfit.
Put a ribbon pin on my jacket for maximum Hello Kitty feels. I was THISCLOSE to putting it on my hair, but figured I might be too old for that now, haha!
Hello Kitty fanatics, check out the Hello Kitty character goods in SM Makati if you have time! You won’t be disappointed! <3

I got a new burgundy pants from SM Woman recently, so I took cues from some of Hollywood’s favorite street style stars on how to wear the trend.
Here are Taylor Swift, Olivia Palermo (one of my ultimate style inspirations!), and Selena Gomez rocking it! This is one item that you can’t not have this season. These pants are the perfect alternative to classic blue/black/gray jeans, because you can dress them up or down depending on the items that your pair them with. They can be both fun and sophisticated, so you’ll definitely want to have this in your closet.
(SM Woman pants)
Here’s my Taylor Swift-inspired outfit! Paired my burgundy pants with different black items for that casual “New York” look.
(If you’re wondering why I didn’t go for stripes - Taylor loves polka dots, I think, more than stripes, haha)
Olivia Palermo never fails to make everything look classy! I look up to her so much that I decided to grow my bangs out as an attempt to look like her (in my dreams, lol). I also part my hair in the middle all the time because of her. <3
If you think burgundy pants are hard to match with other items, think again! Olivia’s outfit only shows that you can wear it with other autumn colors, and still end up looking put-together.
Selena’s style is quite different from mine, but here’s my own interpretation of her outfit!
I love that she mixed her burgundy pants with sporty elements! Good thing I found a vest that looks like a varsity jacket, only with the sleeves cut off.
Had so much fun creating this entry! I’m really set on making this a regular thing - cross your fingers I don’t get lazy, haha.
See you guys at SM Makati one of these days! I can’t wait to check out the newest stocks.
This is currently my favorite part of The SM Store! Jeffrey Campbell shoes are always so lust-worthy. Most of SM’s JC collection features styles (including this particular style that I wore last week) that are both edgy and wearable enough for everyday use. See for yourself—
Have fun shopping at the Jeffrey Campbell section in SM Makati! Maybe I’ll see you there next week!
A date with my new Jeffrey Campbell shoes, I mean. For about 3 years now, the brand has been available exclusively at SM Fashion Forum, at the 3rd floor of SM Makati. Whenever I tell my friends that they don’t have to fly out of the country just to buy JC shoes, they don’t believe me! Classic case of “pics or it didn’t happen”, so I hope this post is enough proof.
Back in 2010, I went through all the hassle of ordering from a international site just to get my first pair of Jeffrey Campbells. I found out about the brand through fashion bloggers who featured the JC Foxy Heel Platforms on their blogs. I ended up getting a pair for myself because of the chunky heels and edgy design! 4 years have passed, and while my taste in footwear may have drastically changed since then (don’t know if I can still pull off wearing JC Litas given my current style), I still feel strongly about Jeffrey Campbell designs. They keep up with trends, but also offer classic designs here and there.
Visiting SM Makati regularly has its perks, and one of them is finding out about special weekly deals. Jeffrey Campbell had a 15% off discount on all regular items last week. Of course, I didn’t miss the opportunity to get a pair for myself!
There were so many pairs to choose from, but I ultimately decided on this particular one, for a lot of reasons. It’s definitely different from the simple and safe designs that I usually pick, but I love how it’s still wearable and versatile enough for everyday use.
I dared myself to style it for a casual dinner date, and with some effort, it surprisingly worked! My boyfriend (my real date slash photographer who was starting to wonder who Jeffrey was) even told me that these shoes look more comfortable than the ones that I always wear. He would know - I always express my discomfort to him whenever I wear sky-high pointy toe shoes (lol @ the things I do for beauty).
Finally got to wear my SM Woman pleated midi skirt too! I’ve had this in my closet for about a month now, and I’m glad I saved these perfect pleats for this perfect date.
Black and white with gold accents is a combination that I will never, ever get tired of. True enough, it didn’t fail me when I tried to style a date outfit with my edgy JC shoes!
Have fun shopping at the Jeffrey Campbell section in SM Makati! Maybe I’ll see you there this weekend?
I’ve always enjoyed doing makeovers, and I’m so happy SM Makati gave me an opportunity to give back, and help my readers with whatever styling concern that they had. Thanks SM Makati for hosting this small event! <3
We chose 4 winners via a quick Twitter contest, and met Kim, Aniqa, Mika and Yen at The SM Store on a relaxed Monday afternoon. We all clicked within minutes of meeting each other! They were also quick to open up to me about their styling concerns:
1) Kawaii-loving Kim has always been conscious about her height and arms, and wanted to try wearing something other than her usual dress + cardigan ensemble. She also had no idea how to wear prints and pants, given her height and body type.
2) Art student Aniqa wanted to look youthful and fun yet professional for her upcoming internship. While color-blocking, and mixing and matching may not be a problem for her in terms of her craft, it definitely is when it comes to fashion! She is also just cut her hair really short so she wanted to inject more feminine pieces into her wardrobe.
3) Mika wanted to get away from just wearing pants and loose tops all the time. She’s a huge follower of the local fashion scene, and is very much inspired by model off-duty looks.
4) Yen is a new mom (her 3-month-old baby Parker is the cuuutest!) who wanted to graduate from cutesy dolly looks, and dabble into sexier, more grown-up styles after giving birth.
While Kim and Aniqa were having their make-up done at the Covergirl and Maybelline booths…
Mika, Yen and I bonded over shopping and fashion!
They were free to choose whatever they wanted, and whenever they didn’t know what to pair with the items they chose, I gave my own recommendations. I also dared them to go out of their comfort zones and choose items that they’ve never tried before.
Mika and Yen loved the SM Woman section for all the sophisticated pieces that can be worn from day-to-night.
Spent forever just ogling at SM Shoes and Bags!
Mika got these instant leg-elongating, leg-slimming shoes!
SM Parisian’s got a wonderful selection at the moment. Almost everyone got these pointy-toe wedges! I would’ve gotten these for myself too if only it were available in my size (Boo, I have small feet!).
Gray or black?
Grabby hands! SM’s bags are ideal for everyday use. You can totally fit your life in them!
SM Accessories has some wonderful evening clutches! Most of them have an extra strap inside, just in case you want to turn them into crossbody bags. Nifty!
Bonding time with Kim and Aniqa while Yen and Mika had their make-up done. Check out their happy shopping pile! :D
So many options at SM Accessories! You’ll be surprised to be find the latest jewelry trends there at such affordable prices.
Kim’s personal pick! If you love all things cute and dainty, GTW by SM is the perfect place to go shopping!
My personal picks from SM Parisian. Flats are my savior nowadays, especially when traveling. I don’t know how I was able to survive my early 20s just wearing heels all the time!
Classy colors. Need all 3 in my life. These would look good with anything!
At this point, we all went to the nearest dressing room for the final transformation! Given the items they picked, I styled the girls accordingly. I felt like I was able to put my styling skills to a test! So fun!
Kim almost never wears pants because she thinks they just make her look shorter and frumpier. Sticking to one color family, and wearing pants with a crop top and pointy heels help in elongating one’s silhouette.
I asked her how she felt with her outfit, and she said she felt “powerful”. LOVE IT! Fashion is really transfomative.
Aniqa chose a top and bottom set, but I showed her that it can be worn separately if she wanted to. Pleated midi skirts are all the rage this season, but we kept it light, fun and age-appropriate with a colorful top.
The second look is all about matching colors. My no-fail rule in choosing what solid color to go with a print is to choose a color FROM the print. This way, your outfit will look more coherent (instead of just totally random). The skort had a hint of yellow in it, so we chose a yellow top.
Mika wanted to build an outfit around this plaid sweater. Worked with her body type, and balanced the print out with a slim, origami-type skirt that showed off her pretty legs (Me to Mika: Your legs are perfect. *shock* How dare you always cover them with pants? LOL).
The baby is now a lady! Yen’s transformation into a super stylish mom got me all nostalgic about my own blonde phase in the past, and how I slowly transitioned into more mature looks.
Yen prefers flat shoes for everyday use, now that she’s a mom. Every once in a while she still wears heels, but we decided to go for outfits that will still look chic even with flats.
Mika’s final outfit. Check out that confident expression!
Kim’s final outfit. She’s a kawaii girl at heart, so we ended up with this outfit that she felt best represented her personality. Only this time, we skipped the tutu, ribbons and pastels for a change.
Artist-ception! I hope they make this shirt in a “blogger” print too!
We kept her individual street style and penchant for monochromatic pieces, but injected the final look with feminine elements, as she wished. Graphic tee + lace skirt = who would’ve thought it could work?
No need to give up your dolly roots once you’ve entered motherhood! Love this sweet, sophisticated Sunday look for Yen.
Writing this entry just gave me separation anxiety. I spent a whole afternoon with these girls, and I had such a blast getting to know each one of them.
The reason why I didn’t force my own personal style on them by pre-choosing the items is because I wanted them to realize that there is an infinite amount of styling potential already in them. This event was enough proof, I think. :”)
A lot of people think that my wardrobe is bottomless, but I actually repeat clothes a lot. I’ve always found it practical to invest in classic pieces that work for my body type. If they fit perfectly, I’m definitely wearing them again. If I find a certain style that is versatile enough to go from day to night, I’m definitely buying it.
This is why I have a ton of shift dresses in my closet! Move over, bodycon dresses, because shift dresses are much more comfortable and sophisticated. They’re great for work too! I usually wear shift dresses to my meetings because they automatically make me look decent and professional. (The last thing you want to do in a professional setting is distract people with unnecessary skin exposure!)
But what *can* you do to modify a knee-length shift dress? I love wearing shift dresses as is, but different occasions call for different styling. These kinds of work dresses need not always be boring, since there are various ways to make them more exciting:
1) A) Use a belt to shorten your dress to your desired length.
This is a technique that I often use for all my good but awkward length dresses. I’m just average height (I’m only 5’3” without heels!) with a short torso-longer legs proportion, so I always play with proportions, and try to elongate my figure by showing off my legs. (This explains all my leg-baring OOTDs!)
B) Use a belt to define your waist.
This creates the illusion of a curvier figure, and also acts like an additional accessory to the whole outfit. I chose a skinny black belt with a gold buckle to match my favorite gold jewelry.
Choosing the best belt for your body type is important, unless looking frumpy doesn’t bother you at all. If you’re petite or pear-shaped, go for skinny belts that won’t overwhelm your frame. If you’ve got an hourglass figure, make sure your belt emphasizes the tiniest part of your waist (don’t go for the ones that rest at the hip). If you have a long torso, you can get away with wide belts.
2) Wear a blazer over your belted dress, and match it with boots/booties.
Perfect way to make your work dress go from day-to-night. Choose a non-black blazer to make your outfit pop, and skip the office pumps for edgier shoes!
3) Wear a knit top/sweater over your dress, and accessorize with a statement necklace.
It was only recently that I appreciated layering over dresses! I love how my skirt collection seems like it has somewhat doubled, now that I can make my dresses look like skirts too! Best to go for cropped sweaters and knits to balance out the length of the shift dress.
Also, statement necklaces are always your best friend.
The bag (SM Parisian) and dress (from SM Woman) are available at The SM Store in SM Makati. You might also want to check out the sleeveless version of this dress, as well as the rack of SM Accessories where I got the statement necklace in my last photo.
Have fun shopping!
